John “Stump” VanArsdol – stump@gaisconstruction.com

Native to Charlotte, NC, Stump took a summer job in high school where he was first exposed to the construction world. Before joining Gais, he worked for an electrical company. Stump has been with Gais for since November, 2009. When not at work, Stump enjoys spending time with his family and hiking.


Tom Moynihan – tom@gaisconstruction.com

Tom was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He joined Gais Construction in July of 2017, first as a Superintendent, but he has since been promoted to Project Manager. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama and still proudly supports his alma mater (especially during the football season). When he’s not working hard out on the field with our Superintendents, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his two children.

Jose Ayala – jose@gaisconstruction.com

Jose was born in El Salvador, but raised in New Jersey. His interest in construction began as a young boy, when he would watch and learn from his father as he built things. Jose is a graduate of the ITT Technical Institute. He has been working for Gais Construction for over ten years. While not at work, Jose enjoys volunteering in his community, playing with his band and spending time with his family.

Doug was born in and grew up in Liverpool, NY, which is just outside of Syracuse. He got into the construction business in high school and has been in it ever since. Doug began working for Gais Construction in July, 2023. While not at work, Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and adult children. He is a very happy dog dad, and also enjoys collecting and restoring cars.

 


Joe Albanese – joe@gaisconstruction.com

Joe was born in New Jersey, but was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a teenager he took a summer job in the construction field where he got some insight as to a future career path within the business. In 2019 he and his wife moved to the Charlotte area from Wilmington, NC and he joined Gais Construction in February of 2020. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two children and three grandchildren.


Derek Hamby – derek@gaisconstruction.com

Derek was born in Wilkesboro, NC and grew up in the Foothills. He got his start in construction during his college years, where he had the opportunity to work on the largest residential project under construction in NC at that time. Later on he worked in a supporting role as a stone countertop specialist for 11 years. Derek received his BA in General Studies from Wingate University. He joined Gais Construction in March of 2022. While not at work, Derek enjoys the culinary arts, gardening, and attending live music events.

Juan Velazco – juan@gaisconstruction.com

Juan was born and raised in Raleigh. He first got into construction by working with his dad, who as an electrician for 21 years. He would work with him on school breaks and on weekends to earn money to buy video games. Juan joined Gais Construction in November, 2022. He graduated from a military school at the age of 16 and dove right into the construction field a few months later. Juan is big on family. While not at work he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, traveling or hanging out at home.

Tim was born and raised in Pennsylvania, 35 minutes from Philly. I got introduced to construction by my father-in-law, whose company specialized in excavation & foundation building in the buroughs of NYC. That is where I learned how to read blueprints and lead a construction crew. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Business from St. Joseph’s University. Tim joined Gais Construction in January of 2023. While not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children. I enjoy playing golf and soccer and am a huge sports fan, especially a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Falcons, and Swansea City Football Club.

 


Dalton Johnson – dalton@gaisconstruction.com

Dalton was born and raised in Kannapolis, NC. He has been with Gais Construction since January, 2023. Dalton first took an interest in construction when he started building theater sets in college. He moved on to home renovations, small residential construction projects, and marine construction, until he landed his first gig doing commercial and residential custom carpentry. Dalton has a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Brevard College. While not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, being outdoors, or playing in his blues rock band.


Aaron Thorne – aaron@gaisconstruction.com

Aaron was born in Charlotte, NC, but grew up in the Waxhaw community in Union County. His love for building things and working with his hands began at a young age when he would help his father with projects around the house, eventually leading to him going to work for his father’s construction company out of high school, building custom homes and doing historic remodels all over Charlotte’s historic neighborhoods, like Myer’s Park and Plaza Midwood. When Aaron isn’t on site directing the daily duties of his project, he likes to spend time with his wife and son, play the drums in his band with his friends, and spend time in the great outdoors.

Juan was born in the Dominican Republic, but lived for a large part of his adolescence in New York. He has been with Gais Construction since February, 2023. Juan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the PUCMM- Pontifical Mother and Master Catholic University of Santiago campus and he also earned a Diploma in Electronic Systems from Lincoln Tech Institute of New Jersey. In Juan’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing sports.


Greg Pressley – @gaisconstruction.com

Greg was born in Monroe, NC and raised between Lincoln & Union County growing up. He has been with Gais Construction since August, 2023. Greg grew up around the construction industry. At the age of 11 or 12, he started watching and learning from his step-dad, who had over 40 years of experience in framing, and helped during the summers when he was out of school. After graduating high school, Greg found that trim carpentry and custom cabinetry were a good fit and he has enjoyed the fine detail aspects of each job for the last 12 years. While not at work, Greg enjoys watching his two 8 year old sons’ soccer & baseball games, and his 6 year old daughter do gymnastics. He also loves beach trips and riding motorcycles with his wife.
