Soul Gastrolounge is a popular Charlotte, North Carolina restaurant known for its eclectic, globally-inspired tapas and sushi menu, lively atmosphere, and house music. Originally opened in 2009, it gained a following for its “urban loft” vibe, complete with distinctive decor like the signature peacock and artwork. After closing its original location, it reopened in a larger space in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood. The restaurant is first-come, first-served and popular for its cocktails, unique dishes like watermelon pork belly tacos, and resident DJs. An eclectic, tapas-style menu with a strong sushi program. Popular dishes include watermelon pork belly tacos, chicken skin nachos, and various sushi rolls. Lively and social, blending an “urban loft” aesthetic with intimate seating and prominent decor, including the returning peacock, artwork, and other familiar icons. A key part of the experience, featuring local DJs playing house music. Seating is first-come, first-served, with no reservations. Opened in 2009, it quickly became a Charlotte staple before closing its original Plaza Midwood location due to a lease issue. It reopened in 2025 in the larger NoDa neighborhood.
