Three Spirits Brewery was a soul-inspired craft brewery formerly located at 5046 Old Pineville Road in Charlotte’s LoSo (Lower South End) district. After a five-year run, the brewery permanently closed on September 30, 2020, as the owner transitioned back to his career in medicine. Founded by Tabu and Jennifer Terrell, the brewery was known for its “Old School” vibe and a philosophy centered on “Comfort Beer.” The name and aesthetic were inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, reflecting the “spirits” of the past, present, and future. The taproom featured a cozy, “industrial-classic” atmosphere with leather couches, a fireplace, and a 1970s-style lounge feel. The brewing style focused on classic, approachable English and American ales. Signature pours included the Ain’t No Sunshine (Oatmeal Stout), Peaceful Easy Feeling (Session IPA), and Happiness (English-style Pale Ale). Known as one of the most inclusive and laid-back spots in the Charlotte beer scene, it was a popular neighborhood “living room” that hosted live jazz, soul music, and community fundraisers. While the physical taproom is no longer in operation, the space was eventually taken over and reimagined as Gilde Brewery, an authentic German brewhouse that opened in 2022.
