The Exchange at 36th St., located in the heart of Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood at 451 E. 36th St., is a unique hybrid of a neighborhood market, full-service bar, and deli. Opened in February 2021, the concept was originally planned as a restaurant but pivoted to include a specialty grocer due to the pandemic. The shelves are stocked with local and regional Carolina-based products, including Queen Charlotte’s Pimento Cheese, Lenny Boy Kombucha, and fresh produce from nearby farms. It serves as a convenience spot for essentials and specialty pantry goods. The venue features a full bar specializing in craft cocktails—such as the signature Dirty 36—as well as local beers, wine, and a sipping vermouth program. The food menu includes sandwiches made with Wentworth & Fenn bread, shareable plates like buffalo chicken sliders, and a popular Sunday brunch featuring mimosa flights. The 1,400-square-foot space offers an “industrial-modern” aesthetic with wood and metal accents, greenery, and vintage elements. It is a casual hangout with a lounge area, bar seating, and an outdoor patio. The facility is fully wheelchair accessible, including the entrance, parking lot, and restrooms. The brand recently expanded with a second location, The Exchange Uptown, which focuses primarily on grab-and-go items and retail beer and wine.
